It’s Our Tenth Birthday

On the 4^th May 2022 it was exactly 10 years since I formally registered The British Quinoa Company Ltd with Companies House – so Happy Birthday to us!

Back in 2012, I was studying for a PhD at The University of Nottingham and continuing with my quinoa trials back on the farm at home, it was all a little bit of a pipe dream to be able to start growing quinoa in the UK as a viable offering, and forming a limited company seemed the ideal route for this. It wasn’t straight-forward though, I found that to register a limited company with the word ‘British’ in the name was not permitted unless you could prove that you are pre-eminent in your line of business, so I had to obtain several letters from government bodies stating they had no objection to this, furthermore I had to prove all the quinoa research I had done in the years before, but finally it was accepted!

Back then it was just myself and my parents working on the project to develop quinoa as a new UK crop, and ten years later we have grown to a team of five and supply many other ingredients than just quinoa.
